Lion's Head Hiking Day
Explore breathtaking views of Georgian Bay
Trip Details
The Lion’s Head Provincial Park is also part of the Niagara escarpment and particularly well known for its rock formations more than 400 million years old. During our hike we will stop at different viewpoints overseeing the cliffs and potholes formed by glaciers and erosion, and yes, this includes the Lion’s Head, as well as the crystal clear blue waters of Georgian Bay. During the 10 km loop you will pass through one of the oldest and least disturbed forest ecosystems in all of Ontario. Roughly at the half of the hike we will descend from the cliffs towards an opening in the cliff formations where you will have the opportunity to dive into the clear waters of Georgian Bay. These can be quite cold, even in summer, but after seeing them for a while from the cliffs most people can not resist. This is also where we will enjoy our lunch together before the return to the start of the trail. Note that this is not a serviced park. This means that there are no bathrooms or garbage bins along the way. Please take any trash out of the park with you. On the way back to Toronto we will make a stop at the iconic Inglis Falls, the most popular waterfall in Owen Sound.
